Eco Venao Permaculture

Started in 2015, the Permaculture farm is located on the most deforested part of PANAMA inside a private eco-lodge called ECOVENAO. Consequence of one hundred years of practices to rise cattle with extensive methods, this part of the country is now experiencing a significant decrease of rainfall, damaged soil and a disturbed biodiversity. The land is a sloppy 10 years old cattle with 1.5 ha of superficy. EcoVenao lodge provided the land and hired a Permaculture designer and a local farmer to start the project, using mostly low cost methods. Preventing erosion and water storage were executed by earthworks and the creation of two ponds, where ducks and tilapias were incorporated. 70% of the plants are perennials and 25% are nitrogen fixing plants.
