Terganic Farmstay

Terganic Farmstay is an off-grid permaculture farmstay and regenerative education centre in the southeast of Mauritius. Located within La Meule Eco-Hamlet, it transforms former degraded sugarcane land into a productive, biodiverse landscape through food forests, agroforestry, vegetable gardens, integrated animal systems, composting, and contour-based water-harvesting earthworks. The farmstay combines ecological restoration with immersive guest experiences, offering hands-on learning, guided visits, workshops, and regenerative design consulting. It serves as a practical model of climate-appropriate, culturally rooted resilience for small island environments and tropical regions of Africa and the Indian Ocean. Terganic Farmstay is an off-grid permaculture farmstay and regenerative education centre located within La Meule Eco-Hamlet in the southeast of Mauritius. Developed by Terganic Regenerative Ltd, it stands on 27 acres of former degraded sugarcane land at the foot of Mountain Bambous, where the Rivulet Bambous runs along the valley. The site is undergoing a long-term ecological transformation, guided by permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, and appropriate low and high-tech resilience strategies adapted for small island tropical climates. The landscape is being regenerated through a combination of food forests, agroforestry systems, orchards, vegetable gardens, contour-aligned water-harvesting earthworks, and integrated animal systems. Swales, ponds, and berms capture and infiltrate rainwater through the slopes, while composting, mulching, and soil-building practices restore fertility across former monoculture cane fields. The farm integrates chickens, ducks, rabbits, quails, goats, sheeps and in a way that contributes to soil improvement, pest management, and ecosystem balance.
